Mark James has a PhD in organic synthesis. After postdoctoral research he joined ICI in Manchester and remained there for 18 years seeing the transformation through Zeneca to Avecia. He managed projects ranging from biocide design to developing inkjet processes to manufacture PCB’s including a spell in chemical manufacturing. In 2005 he moved to the CPI, setting up and managing their initial flexible electronics operation. Mark joined Merck in the UK in 2006, leading the company’s functional material patterning activities. In 2010, he took over responsibility for the Organic Electronics Business covering the development of and commercialisation of organic semiconductor materials for display backplanes, circuits, OPV and OPD applications. From 2014 he became global head of R&D for Hybrid Electronics.
