Paul Shore is the McKeown Professor of Ultra Precision in the Manufacturing and Materials Department at Cranfield University and Director of the EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Ultra Precision.
Professor Shore trained in the precision machine tool sector, subsequently studying in the field of design of production machines and systems. He is focussed on research into ultra precision machines and processes up to PhD level. He has led a number of major DTI Nanotechnology projects prior to working internationally with the SKF Group. Professor Shore has carried out research and global implementation of new manufacturing technologies for the SKF Group based in the Netherlands and Sweden. He was promoted to Professor at Cranfield University in 2002.
Paul now leads the Precision Engineering Institute at Cranfield University, establishing it as a world-leading research facility and a recognised system supplier to NASA, ESA, ESO and NPL. He has led major collaborative projects through the Research Councils UK Basic Technologies programme and most recently an Integrated Knowledge Centre funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council. Paul is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and was elected President of the European Society for Precision Engineering and Nanotechnology from 2011-2013.
